The Salisbury Big Business Event is delighted to confirm that The World’s Greatest Living Explorer – Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE will be the highlight speaker at this year’s event.
The Salisbury Big Business Event is a 3 day business event from 25 – 27 April 2017 at The Guildhall in Salisbury and each year a highlight speaker shares their story of motivation and determination. Sir Ranulph who is the only man alive to have travelled the surface of the World’s polar axis who share his sheer resilience and no-nonsense approach to creating and building his team in pursuit of the apparent impossible.
Asked about Salisbury Big Business Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE said, “There is no bigger challenge than being in business and all the hurdles and uphill struggles that come with it. I hope by sharing my story of determination and team effort it will help the business community and wider general public. I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the Salisbury event.”
Tickets to the event are £20 per person including wine, soft drinks and canapés.

Overview and Outlook for the UK Economy

Andrew has been Agent for Central Southern England since December 2015, having joined the Agency as Deputy Agent in August 2008. He joined the Bank in 2001, working in Head Office roles that included writing parts of the Bank's quarterly Inflation Report, working with Chris Allsopp on his review of statistics for economic policymaking, and finally as Research Adviser to Andrew Sentance on the Monetary Policy Committee.
Andrew studied Economics at King's College, Cambridge and the London School of Economics, He started his career as an economist working in HM Treasury, where at various times he worked on monetary, fiscal and environmental policies. Andrew lives with his family near Winchester, where he tries to eke out enough spare time to play viola in the Winchester Symphony Orchestra.
What Visitors Can Expect from the Session
Andrew will discuss recent developments in the UK economy and the Monetary Policy Committee’s forecasts for economic growth and inflation. He’ll explain what that is expected to mean for interest rates, and answer questions on that or other economic topics.

Lindsey has worked in the not for profit sector, government and commercial. She is an advocate and firm believer in networking and helped to establish the Women on Wednesday networking group in Salisbury back in 2004. Lindsey considers herself a dynamic, successful connector of people and business. She is an accomplished solution solver; plus she does love a challenge!
A member of the Stonehenge Chamber of Trade and has sat on the Committee since 2014. She also holds the positional of Treasurer on the Federation of Small Business Salisbury Branch Committee.

Russell Frith manages Castledown Enterprise Centre, one of The Enterprise Networks initiatives to provide support for small and start-up business. Russell has experience running his own business, having started his career running a small family farm in Dorset. More recently he has worked for a welfare to work company and Wiltshire Probation, helping clients return to work and in some case’s start their own businesses. He has a good knowledge of the help that is available for businesses from start-up to large companies and has seen many of the companies he has worked with grow significantly. He has a good reputation for helping companies achieve their goals.
What can you expect from these clinics?
During the clinic Russell will get an understanding of the business and the issues that are facing it, focusing on the most pertinent. He will then discuss possible solutions and agree an action plan with the attendee that the business will implement, along with an appropriate time frame. Russell will keep in touch with the business over the coming months to see what effect the action plan has had and provide further advice when needed.

SPRING JOB FAIR 2017
The Salisbury Journal will be hosting a Job Fair at the Guildhall Square, Salisbury on Tuesday 25th April which will be open to the public (free entry) between 9am – 4pm.
This year’s Job Fair is part of the Big Business Event which is organised by Salisbury City Council; it is a three day event with Tuesday being the first day and its purpose is to support the local business community with various seminars, workshops and guest speakers. The Job Fair will be situated in a marquee at the Guildhall Square in front of the Guildhall and will offer the same facilities as in previous years.
We hope to include a mix of exhibitors who will be able to offer a variety of jobs to suit all types of skilled/unskilled candidates looking for full or part time vacancies, permanent or temporary – as well as voluntary, apprenticeships, courses and career advice or simply looking for a career change.
