Salisbury and District Chamber of Commerece and Industry are delighted to be a part of the SBBE 2017 event by hosting this exceptional 90 minutes networking lunch. Doors will open slightly earlier than usual at midday to allow for an extended period of open networking with the buyers from our "Meet the Buyer" event which is being held earlier in the day and of course with other Members.

The Young Chamber’s sixth free networking event, titled ‘Treating the Customer’ for Young Professionals aged 20-35 will take place in the Guildhall Courtroom from 4.30-6pm on Wednesday, April 26.
Special guest speaker, Richard Knight, will look at the skills and attitude for meeting and learning in a business environment, with a theme of looking after your customer. Richard is the Regional Director of Shopper Anonymous for Dorset, Bath and Wiltshire, the UK’s leading customer feedback organisation, focusing on mystery shopping, team training and mentoring. After Richard’s presentation, at 5pm, we will be running an informal networking and ‘wine down’ session with NJAC cocktails, to put some of Richard’s tips and hints into practice and get to know other young professionals. Anyone who cannot attend at 4.30pm is welcome to join us for cocktail hour!
This will be followed by the Big Business Event’s Food & Drink Social event from 6pm to 8pm, giving a further chance to network with Salisbury businesses.
Past events have had a great turnout, and we look forward to seeing you all there again, as well as new faces who are interested in learning more about business and meeting likeminded individuals in a friendly and informal setting.

How to turn your Council into a business

Andrew Grant has over 20 years’ experience at Chief Executive level in the public sector Most recently, he has turned Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) from a traditionally-funded local authority into a multi award-winning commercially-focused social enterprise AVDC not only provides services to households (Limecart) and businesses (Incgen), it also helps other local authorities generate revenues and cut costs using leading-edge entrepreneurial tools and techniques.
Examples of this include:
- a local lottery, which generated £60K for good causes in its first six months
- turning the planning function from a £1.5m cost to a £500K profit
- putting all IT and telephony into The Cloud
- property development, which is already showing a 12% return on a £100m investment
This session would be of particular interest to local authority chief executives, councillors and other senior executives. Andrew Grant and Mike Southon will explain the simple steps any council can make to become more commercial, generate new revenues and become less dependent on grants and other traditional forms of funding. In particular, Andrew and Mike will show how public sector bodies can achieve real culture change, enabling them to face current and future challenges with a confident and motivated workforce.

The South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit, the purpose of which is to investigate all types of cybercrime and to educate people as to how they can protect themselves. The team also aim to learn from each report received and to highlight measures for mitigating the threat from cybercrime.

Detective Inspector Ed Heath is currently the South West Police Organised Crime lead for Cyber Crime in the South West. Having spent seven years within the Metropolitan Police before transferring to Avon and Somerset Constabulary in 1995, Ed has performed a variety of Detective roles within serious and major crime and counter terrorism. This includes leading homicide investigations and a sensitive Regional Intelligence Unit. Ed has been in his current role for 3 months and leads a team that investigates cyber dependent criminality and promotes messaging designed to protect businesses, emergency services and critical infrastructure from the effects of Cyber Crime.
